The Case for the Marketing Budget Leap

I'm fond of saying "like too little butter spread over too much bread".

This a paraphrase of Bilbo Baggins from The Lord of the Rings. He's describing how "thin" he feels after having held onto the One Ring for too long. 💍

It's parasitic power has slowly worn him out. He's done. 😮‍💨

(here comes the marketing tie-in... wait for it... waaaait for it)

This is similar to clients that I see that are OBSESSED with stretching 🙆🏽‍♀️ a meager marketing budget.

Our pal Bilbo is worth thin by this obsession, nearly useless by the end of the journey - and for what? What did he gain? The obsession used him instead.

But let's get back to the butter. 🧈

When you spread things too thin, they become ineffective. They don't clear the bar of noticeability. 🙈

Counterpoint: go bite a stick of butter.

You will NOTICE. It will have an impact that you will learn from.

Prepare yourself, and learn. Notice every nuance of that chomp of butter - what you like, what you don't. How much is too much, how much is just right.

You might even realize: "Have I been eating shitty butter all this time?!" 🤬

And then you'll know, and you'll do better next time.
