Strategy Isn't Mysterious, It's Just Goals and Priorities
Listen - we've all been there. Introducing ourselves on a Zoom call. The Account Manager, the Creative Director, the Developer. Clients *get* what they do, instinctively. We can imagine them working, kicking out agendas, designs, code - providing *real value*.
And then the Strategist. 🤷♂️
((Office Space voice)) "What would ya say you do here?" 🤔
Strategy: it's amorphous, ethereal, a myth in some cultures.
If you've been in this position, this post is for you. 🫵🏼
I used to think it was hard to explain what "strategy" did, but not any more.
Like the best myths, a good strategy is an ideal and set of rules.
In business speak: that's GOALS and PRIORITIES.
Neither are reat, but do guide and inform real work...
...if you believe in it hard enough.
It really is "just goals and priorities".
(PS shout out to "JUST". It's doing a lot of work in the lede below.)
