Marcus Paint
Rebranding a family-owned paint company that’s been in business for generations.
The Challenge
Marcus Paint has been making quality paints since before the Civil War. As one of Louisville’s most established businesses, they needed a brand that reflected their legacy as a leader in the coatings industry.
The Concept
Through our branding process, we learned that in its history, Marcus had shifted from producing domestic house paints to industrial coatings. These coatings are crucial to the safety and performance of a wide variety of materials and machines.
That led us to our brand concept: Protecting What’s Important.
Visual Identity
Our brand concept is expressed literally in the shield mark. Protection is at the heart of everything Marcus does and the logo reflects that as a badge of honor. Supporting the concept are secondary badges that speak to the company’s values and history. The color palette is reminiscent of vintage enamel and a nod to belief in quality American manufacturing. Our typography is big, bold, and timeless; Marcus says what they mean and they stand behind every word.
Photography
Marcus Paint has been in the same building for over 150 years and it shows. We captured that unique history by showing machines that have been used for decades and workspaces where results are more important than appearance. And at the heart of it all is a team of professionals as dedicated to your products as you are, who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty.
The Website
To bring the Marcus story into the 21st century, we crafted a website that’s bold, straightforward, and encompasses everything they are. An interactive timeline illustrates their longevity and milestones in the industry. Animated hover states on the staff page bring to life a team you can relate to and trust.
